![]() On mobile, sorry for any mistakes will fix later. TLDR: Big fish is better than any of Tim's movies in recent years. So what happened Tim? Are you burnt(on) out? Is it the studios and producers? What has happened to the story teller who gave us such a great film? The special effects were better in 2003 than what were in the Alice in Wonderland movies. I'm saying Big Fish is way better than Charlie and the chocolate factory. I know we all see and experience movies differently. I just have not seen a TB film to live up to what Big Fish has set the standard at. The CGI throws you off and it's hard to really settle in. With Tim's more recent movies I feel a lot is lost. They stayed after he was put to rest and all laughed at his memory. The funeral scene showed everyone grieving after losing such a great friend. How the son finishes the fathers story and makes amends felt complete without being too foreseen. The movie made me feel all emotions you could hope for in an adventure/finding your way in life movie. The story is about finding your passion, learning to love, accepting other, and taking the risky route is the most rewarding compared to the long boring road. The father was such a caring person and Ewan McGregors performance was captivating. The gold fish being able to grow 4x their size if the habitat is large enough and him comparing his growth to him being meant for more in life. There are a lot of quotes and symbolism in the movie that really make you think. The relationship between father and son has a great feel to it that I could relate to. The story is as spectacular as the stories the father tells his son(and everyone else). Ring master a werewolf was such a great surprise. Right when you think you got things figured out there is a twist that was impossible to see coming. The camera work, the story, the characters and the pace of the film are brilliant. I recently seen it on Hulu and it was beyond what I could ever imagine. A good thing too, since it's long since time public perception around Selick's movies recognized him for his achievements (instead of falsely praising Tim Burton).I have been under a rock and I never seen the movie Big Fish. Thus far Wendell & Wild appears to have avoided the Tim Burton comparisons. It bears a passing stylistic resemblance t o The Nightmare Before Christmas and Coraline, but thankfully stands apart from Selick's former animated features. Titled Wendell & Wild, the dark fantasy film featuring Selick’s trademark stop-motion animation and the voices of Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele as the titular Wendell and Wild – a pair of scheming demon brothers who escape from hell. In 2022 Netflix released Selick’s first feature film since Coraline. When Selick released his second feature James And The Giant Peach in 1996, it too was mistakenly assumed to be a Burton-helmed movie even though his only involvement with the Roald Dahl adaptation was as a producer. ![]() The Nightmare Before Christmas and Coraline aren’t the only Henry Selick movies plagued by the misconception, either. It must be frustrating for the Coraline director to have his movies attributed to Burton so frequently. ![]() It's unfortunate that so many people ask "is Coraline a Tim Burton movie?". Tim Burton didn't direct Coraline, but sadly for the legacy of the phenomenal Henry Selick, the comparisons between them don't stop there. ![]() So, when posters for Coraline bore a tagline proclaiming that the movie was “from the director of The Nightmare Before Christmas”, people wrongly assumed that mind was Tim Burton. Jack Skellington's holiday escapades were, rather ironically, also helmed by Coraline director Henry Selick (in his feature filmmaking debut, no less). Like Coraline, many people don't know Tim Burton didn't direct Nightmare Before Christmas. The classic stop-motion spook-fest was released in 1994 and based on a book by Burton, who co-produced. Why do many people wonder is Coraline a Tim Burton movie when he isn't mentioned anywhere in the Coraline credits, director or otherwise? The issue appears to trace back to the aforementioned The Nightmare Before Christmas. Despite the fact Henry Selick is clearly credited as the Coraline director, the misconception still persists. ![]()
